How to Take Your Own Landscape Photos
It's quite important that you take try to take your photos - preferably from left to right, or top to bottom - keeping the camera as steady as possible. Things don't have to be absolutely perfect, but best results may be had using a tripod.
Take each photo, and try and set an overlap of about 20-25% - no more. Less than 5% overlap, and things may not join together that easily. More than 25% overlap, and distortions caused by the camera may make the joining process imperfect.
Look at this sequence:-
It combines fairly well to create:-
But there are problems. Try and set the exposure before you start, and keep it constant throughout - otherwise small shadows as above may be evident.
Moving objects can be problematic - as below - there's only one boat, but the delay in taking the second image saw this boat "move" 20 or so metres to the right and leave us with a doppelganger.
A boat bobbing up and down, people walking, running, cycling; vehicles moving etc. can all create false images that are in different places when the images are joined - usually these are seen as duplicates. Whilst they can be removed electronically, the end result is never quite as good as things might be.
